Pursuing Quality Patient Care and Innovation in the Cardiac PET Industry

Cardiac PET Industry Coalition works on behalf of the cardiovascular Positron Emission Tomography imaging industry and is at the forefront of advocacy, quality patient care and innovation to advance the field and practice of diagnostic cardiovascular molecular imaging.

A Dedicated Voice

In 2019, our industry joined together to fight back drastic payment cuts to cardiac PET perfusion imaging proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The federal recommendation – an unsustainable and ill-advised 72% decline in Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) reimbursement over the previous year – would have been damaging to physician practices across the country, endangered patient access to critical cardiac diagnostics, and threatened health outcomes.

In response, stakeholders strategically mobilized to devise and execute a winning advocacy campaign targeting federal agencies and the U.S. Congress. The initiative successfully led CMS to roll back the proposed cuts – and highlighted the need for a dedicated voice for the cardiac PET industry in Washington, D.C., the Cardiac PET Industry Coalition (CPIC).

Medicare reimbursement that does not accurately account for equipment costs at the appropriate levels will severely stifle research for new and emerging applications of PET…immediate reductions of this scale could be disruptive.”
